What We're Doing Today

Our Company Now

Since 1903, the Stormy Kromer brand has come to embody the independence, wit and grit of the upper Midwest.

It all started with a cap. George “Stormy” Kromer, a semi-pro baseball player and railroad engineer, kept losing his hat on the train. He asked his wife, Ida, to sew an earband on his favorite ball cap to keep his ears warm and the hat snug. It worked.

Over the past century, many brands have come and gone, yet we’ve survived and thrived — thanks to the adventurers, the workers, the dreamers, and all the excellent people who value style, durability, and a sense of fun.

You turned a simple wool cap into an icon and the cornerstone of a brand that remains fresh and authentic more than a century after Ida’s very first stitch.

Family

Because Stormy Kromer is family owned and operated, we have a personal stake in making sure that our products are well made, our employees are well treated, and that our company reflects our values of authenticity, quality and integrity.

Team

At the heart of Stormy Kromer is our hardworking team. They’re bright, committed, fun, and they tend to stick around. Half have been with us more than a decade. More than a dozen have been with us for two decades. And two hearty souls have been with us for more than 40 years.

Values

We think a company’s identity is about more than what you do or make — it’s about what you believe in and how you operate. Our company nurtures a culture of equality, inclusion, and respect, and rewards hard work, dedication, and talent.

Community

We’re proud to be headquartered in Ironwood, the western gateway to Michigan, nestled in the Upper Peninsula. The UP is quirky, friendly and beautiful, with miles of pristine forest, apple-pie small towns, and some of the most innovative, hardest working people you’ll ever meet.

Manufacturing

When you pop a Stormy Kromer cap on your head, you’re supporting American workers. Nearly all of our manufacturing is done in the USA. Those few items that aren’t created here are made by carefully chosen partners who share our high standards for quality and ethics.

Sustainability

We’re proud to invest in a sustainable future. We believe that our impact and success are measured in part by how we treat people and the planet. That’s why we’re always working to reduce our environmental footprint and increase our positive community impact.
